"Why does “Renaissance Rods” opt to build on “Epic” glass? Four words: Selection, Strength, Accuracy & Quality.
When I was first approached by Carl about trying the new “Epic” fiberglass blanks, I was skeptical. Why would Carl want a small shop like mine to try out their blanks? After looking at their web site and exchanging several e-mails, I jumped at the opportunity to give them a go. Haven’t looked back since.
"When I first wiggled an Epic blank I just knew it will turn into an amazing rod. Shortly after the first rod was born I took it out on my local trout stream with a couple of friends to fish dry flies.....
These amazing pictures and gorgeous Epic build come courtesy of Christian Hörgren of Fine Tackle Sweden. Christian built this rod for a client a few weeks back, and I asked for some large pictures to show off his craftsmanship - Exquisite.
The rod will be featured on our front page for a few weeks.
"I am really impressed with the Epic 990 profile. It seems like nobody builds a high weight rod for small water 30 pound king salmon. This profile would be ideal. I often find myself caught up in powerful seven and higher weight rods that can generate more line speed than Indiana Jones whip, but has the feel of construction grade rebar. This rod is a mix of both and it's performance is STUNNING.
We are constantly amazed by these incredible creations - An absolutely gorgeous Epic fly rod build from Christian Horgren of Fine Fly Rods in Sweden. Stunning.
It always makes our day to get an email from one of our customers, even more so if it includes pics of their custom build. Here's a note from Clinton in Australia - Love those clear wraps & claret trim!
Gorgeous build, thanks for the pics Clinton!
New concept in Fiberglass Fly Rods & Blanks the Epic 990 - it's terrifying!
We have one more build to come from Callum Ross at Indi River Rods in Australia
Things have been incredibly busy of late. Designing the Epic fly rod blanks and getting them to market seems to have been all consuming. There's been little time for fly fishing, but given that we've had such a bad run of summer weather I don't really feel like I've missed out on too much.
That all changed this week with a run of perfect weather and the arrival of fly fishing mate and fellow casting intructor Simon Zarifeh.
It was the perfect opportunity to get out of the office and take the new "So Blue" Epic 686 and the Lunar fly reel prototype out for a spin.
Fantastic fun, here's a bunch of pics.
Our first set of Epic blanks has just arrived with Shane at Graywolf Custom Rods in the U.S
This lot should keep Shane out of trouble for a while.
