590C Carbon Fibre Ready to Wrap Fly Rod Kit
The Epic 590C Ready to Wrap Fly Rod Kit
The very best components available, all designed to fit together seamlessly. No Reaming, No Drilling, No Sanding - all Epic.
Advanced, High Performance Freshwater Fly.
The Epic 590 C is an extremely light responsive blank designed specifically for dry fly, emerger and light nymph fishing for trout of all sizes.
Revised generation two nano-technology. Epic C series are a state of the art fly rod blank. The most sophisticated composite materials and production processes are used in their construction. Proprietary nano-resins, full Helical construction, multi modulus, and unidirectional carbon fibre - We believe this is the most sophisticated fly rod blank available.
Ground ferrule system
In addition to the industry leading technology used in each of our blanks, Epic carbon fibre fly rod blanks feature our proprietary ground ferrule system. Each male ferrule is hand ground to perfectly fit the female section of the blank. Female sections are all internally reinforced.
Benefits of our ground ferrule system:
- A secure positive fit eliminates knocks
- Smoother energy transfer
- Eliminates flat spots
- Non slip - reduces twisting due to torque
- Internally reinforced ferrules - eliminates ferrule fracture
- Durable & scratch resistant
- Gets better with use
- Precise fit, sections are interchangeable, in the case of tip breakages replacement sections can be sent out immediately. No need to return the blank for a fit.
The 590 C blank weighs an astoundingly light 36 grams (1.2oz) 10% lighter than our previous model and lighter than equivalent blanks by Scott or Sage.
Our use of Silica nano-resin makes for a very tough, lightweight and extremely responsive blank.
As good as it gets
Epic C (Carbon) series fly rod blanks are high performance fishing tools. The lockup point develops in the top third of the blank, and although recovery rates are fast, the Epic C series would best be described as Mid Flex (Orvis) or Medium fast (Sage). They are light without sacrificing strength (lighter than the equivalent Sage one).

Well, first build of an Epic kit. Freight time from NZ to Tasmania was exceptional and easy to track. After initial nerves and a few little errors that the instruction booklet explained how to fix I thoroughly enjoyed the process and what a product. The rod looks good, feels good and is a joy to cast, once I had trained myself to slow down my action. My only regret is not ordering the Epic rod drying kit at the same time, but I did source a battery powered rotisserie in Aust and made a full length jig from left over pine at home. All in all a wonderful experience and I would recommend you to anyone, thanks for the follow up communications. Peter.
Another 5 Star Kit & Build
Similar to other Epic kits, the 590 C kit is truly a soup to nuts deal with first class components from blank, hardware, supplies, and the carbon fiber tube, which is terrific. Made a few changes and substitutions including a custom grip and agate stripping guide to make the build unique. The 590 C is one of if not the best 5 wt carbon fiber rods I've built.
Carbon is not dead!
This is my third Epic and my first C series rod. The quality of the components in the roll your own kit were excellent, as always but it's really all about the blank. I finished the rod two days before the new season opened and now I've had a chance to take it for a test drive. The blank is incredibly light in the hand but with plenty of power. It's more crisp than fast, with great recovery and not a hint of tip wobble (did I just write 'tip wobble'?) It's one of the nicest 5 wts I've ever cast. Too much, far out and groovy, baby, carbon is definitely not dead.
590C the best 9' #5 rod iv ever cast!
What can I say other than WOW, WOW & WOW! Firstly the rod kit is super easy to accomplish. Anyone with patience can easily put a rod together. Being methodical will mean the finish will be nicer, but even if you dont, the rod will still fish / cast just as well. The rod is true to the Swift brand in that is a proper casting machine. Carl and the team at Swift have managed to build a world beating rod manufacturing business in NZ, based wholeheartedly on rods that have feel and soul, and this rod is no exception. I have to say iv never in all my years of Fly Fishing been so besotted in a rod! I just want to go out and cast it over and over. Im almost trying not to catch fish, so I can cast it more. Crazy I know. Firstly I'm amazed at how light it is in the hand. I know Carl said to me that the Gen 2 was lighter than the Gen 1, but I didn't realize how much. It really feels as though you almost no swing weight what so ever. As though the only weight you feel is the line outside the rod tip. The action is such that I find I can deliver tiny chromoniod imitations (size 18-22) at distance with extreme delicacy, yet the rod will load with very little line outside the rod tip. This has to have something to do with such low swing weight? I'm so blown away by this rod that, here I am 3 weeks after finishing the build of my 590C and im putting up my current #6 rod for sale, and buying a 690c kit to replace it. Keep on doing what your doing Swift! World beaters!!
First time build
As this was my first attempt at building a fly rod I was worried that I would end up with nothing but a sticky pile of carbon fibre and tangled thread. However, by following the step by step instructions in the booklet I was feeling like a pro in no time. Everything in the kit is organised to make it as simple as possible and the instructions are super easy to follow with photos of each step. My rod turned out great (in my eyes anyway) and I would highly recommend the 'ready to wrap kits' to anyone. I look forward to the next one.
