My recent purchase of the 590c has been really good it been really enjoyable wrapping the guides and I look forward to finishing it and getting some fish
What a beautiful casting rod. This 590c is the first carbon rod I've purchased from Swift, all the others having been fastglass - and I have to say the 476 is the rod that convinced me to get rid of most of my carbon fibre rods - what a wonderful fishing rod. The Swift experience is excellent with great service and communication. Back to the 590c, having taken a long time to take the plunge to buy a carbon rod again I bought this for the bigger rivers local to me such as the Wye and Severn, first cast I was very impressed with the effortless casting action and the distance surprised me - I'm not a distance caster at all but on occasion it's very useful! It's so light in the hand as well, I paired it with a Lamson Force F2 SL which is the lightest reel I possess. The line is the Epic Glassline DT5F - the whole outfit is so well balanced that my friend who was fishing with me was left speechless on casting it. And he loves his Winston rods! We recently had a good day on the river Wye catching trout and grayling and it performed flawlessly at all ranges and accurately too. A real nice fishing rod. Great feel, good accuracy, gentle in the tip and powerful enough to pick up a decent amount of line. Great job guys!!
I recently had a cast of an Epic carbon #5 wt and was impressed enough to order the kit. The rod seemed to cast more smoothly and with way more precision than the rods I have been using. I built the 5wt - 590C Carbon Fibre from the Ready to Wrap Kit from Epic.My first rod build and I think it went quite well. I used an old BBQ Rotisserie motor for the rod dryer and this worked very effectively. I have cast the rod in the park and it feels and performs like the one I tried. Smooth, precise and more consistent tight loops than I have been able to produce previously! The kit has everything needed and Carl's instruction booklet is a winner. If I built it again I would probably want black and white thread instead of the black and natural which came with the kit. A winding check would be nice too, but the thread works fine. The kit came with the bonus #5wt Epic Glassline which seems to suit the blank. Looking forward to the start of the season to try the rod out for real. May even have to return to Wanaka for a fish (fesh?)!
Well, first build of an Epic kit. Freight time from NZ to Tasmania was exceptional and easy to track. After initial nerves and a few little errors that the instruction booklet explained how to fix I thoroughly enjoyed the process and what a product. The rod looks good, feels good and is a joy to cast, once I had trained myself to slow down my action. My only regret is not ordering the Epic rod drying kit at the same time, but I did source a battery powered rotisserie in Aust and made a full length jig from left over pine at home. All in all a wonderful experience and I would recommend you to anyone, thanks for the follow up communications. Peter.
Similar to other Epic kits, the 590 C kit is truly a soup to nuts deal with first class components from blank, hardware, supplies, and the carbon fiber tube, which is terrific. Made a few changes and substitutions including a custom grip and agate stripping guide to make the build unique. The 590 C is one of if not the best 5 wt carbon fiber rods I've built.

Epic C (Carbon) series fly rod blanks are high performance fishing tools. The lockup point develops in the top third of the blank, and although recovery rates are fast, the Epic C series would best be described as Mid Flex (Orvis) or Medium fast (Sage). They are light without sacrificing strength (lighter than the equivalent Sage one).Got questions? - Drop us a line, we'd love to hear from you.
