The Epic 686 Ready to Wrap Rod Kit

The very best components available, all designed to fit together seamlessly. No Reaming, No Drilling, No Sanding - All Epic.

A total ass-kicker. The Epic 686 presents beautifully but packs a bad ass attitude. This blank totally changes what is possible with modern glass, it is longer, meaner and stronger than any of it's contemporaries. Perfect for tossing big flies, big fish and light saltwater work. Hang on, you're in for a wild ride.

Building a great custom fly rod is no mean feat, selecting the correct matching components can be an intimidating exercise alone. Then there’s those wraps, the cork and glue..

Our Epic Ready to Wrap Rod Kit makes life easy. The kit contains all the components, glues, rod finish and instructions you’ll need to build your own unique custom Epic fly rod.

The components in our Epic Ready to Wrap Rod Kit have all been specifically designed to work together. Our premium grade cork grip features a tapered bore to fit your chosen blank. Each cork grip is ported to receive our Epic reel seat perfectly.

    Getting ready

My rod building class starts 5/16 - can't wait to make my Epic 6-weight!!

    Wow...just wow!

Before I get into how magical this rod casts, I feel the need to express the joy in building an Epic glass rod. Everything fit together perfectly out of the box and the entire build took only a few days, including drying time for three coats on the threads. After hearing some horror stories about attempting ghost wraps for the first time, they were a breeze following the included instructions. Although, it may seem intimidating, I would highly recommend any Epic kit for a first rod build. All the hardware included with these kits top notch. Now to the water. I initially made this purchase with the idea that this will be my primary streamer rod, paired with a Nautilus X-series XL reel in order to have an setup that will work equally well on streams, lakes and saltwater. Over the last few weeks, I have been casting everything from 2/0 bass poppers, bait fish patterns, deer hair mice and lots of basic streamer variations. It doesn't stop there. While I normally throw dries and dropper rigs with a 4wt on the small streams of North Carolina, the 8'6" length of the 686 makes it easy to cast small, delicate presentations as well. I am more than pleased with the Epic 686 and will be coming back for another.

    Giddy up

Geez, this kit is awesome, I've opted for the 8'6" 6wt, full wells/fighting butt model and made a slight change to the diameter and shape of the grip but otherwise everything is perfect

    Most definitely not the last!

I began following Swift on Instagram and was impressed by all the awesome feedback their customers gave the rods. I then checked out a few reviews on The Fiberglass Manifesto. I knew I had to try one of these rods. In the end, (and after I had watched several video demos of rod builds) I decided on a 686 kit. This was my very first rod build and frankly it could not have gone better! I had so much fun building the rod. I bought the 686 in nude with a gold on black reel seat and fighting butt. The components are top notch and truly match any other rod I've held in my hand. While I did read several other blogs and watched numerous videos, the documentation was fantastic and in my opinion anyone with some basic tying knowledge could build an Epic quality rod! And these rods live up to the name, they are Epic! I am in love with this rod, and it will certainly not be the last one I build! Now I just have to decide on the Bandit or the 990.

Fantastic kit -- Everything is top notch

This is my second build with an Epic kit, and I couldn't be more pleased with how it turned out. The book is fantastic (so clear and easy-to-understand that I barely needed it the second time around). The blank and all the components are equally top-notch. Since this was my second build, I thought about just getting a blank and picking my own components for a little more customization. But then I started adding up the increase in price and decrease in quality (unless I wanted to pay a serious increase in price), and it just didn't make sense but to go with the kit. That, and I really like how the Epic looks--this was just to try something new. So, I bought some metallic thread for trim wraps and stuck with the Epic--the quality is so excellent that I just didn't want anything else.
